2. School Hockey Coaching


In-curriculum Coaching
Havant Hockey work with local schools to provide in-curriculum coaching, working with the existing teaching staff, hosting classes of 20+ children in fun and safe sporting activities related to hockey. Everything the school needs is provided by the club - including qualified coaches, sticks, balls, mouth guards & shin pads (where needed) - so no-one needs to miss out. All we ask is that a responsible member if staff remains with each coaching session. Most of the schools we run sessions, use this to replace an existing sports afternoon or activity class. We have bursaries available to provide these services at low/no cost for schools in more challenging areas.

Supporting Local Schools
We have developed a 6-week coaching schedule designed to teach the core skills of hockey, including passing, defensive skills, 1 v 1 elimination and game awareness to children. The format is also intended to upskill Physical Education teachers and build their confidence in teaching hockey with the aim they can continue to run more hockey sessions following completion of our 6-week programme.

Our coaching sessions consider hockey safety and account for varied available facilities across schools. With the support of our sponsors, we can provide all equipment to schools. This includes shin pads and mouthguard for each child (that can be kept) and we bring sticks and balls for each session.

After / Before School Hockey Coaching

After school clubs are available to those wanting to develop further skills and additional experience. For those wanting to access more training, we run a Monday Night After School hockey club at Havant HC pitch, for those where we do not offer a club in school.
